This has been an awarding and challenging course. This week alone, we reviewed great literature on adaptive management and structured decision making. The article I selected to summarize this week is The Public Involvement Process. Following a brief summary on the article, I will discuss what I learned about adaptive and structured decision making and how it all will apply to my career path. The Public Involvement Process is an appropriate article for this week’s readings and an essential article for all of us in this course to refer to in planning our adaptive management plan. The public has shown to be of great interest in the activities going around in their local areas (Bartusek). In addition, the public makes up a lot of key parties involves in an adaptive plan because it is made up of consumers, stakeholders, and interested parties. Examples of communication that the article offers include notices posted around neighborhoods, articles in local newspapers, information in local newsletters and school newsletter, and mail notices to residence surrounding the …show more content…
The book, Smart Choices, was the most beneficial in putting structured decision-making strategies in everyday situations and realistic context. Hammond, Keeney, and Raiffa provide a detail step by step guide called the PrOACT approach (Hammond, Keeney, & Howard, 1999). This guide was very beneficial in learning about how to create a realistic adaptive management plan that includes structured decision making. This plan includes setting the problem on the table and review objectives, alternatives, consequences, tradeoffs, uncertainties, risks and decisions that may be linked to another decision (Hammond, Keeney, & Howard, 1999, p. 13).
