Medication can be beneficial or very harmful to a living thing. Doctors are too quick to diagnose illnesses which causes them to prescribe medication. People go to their primary care doctors who are not specialized in certain fields. The doctors prescribe medication without consulting a professional first. The extreme grieving process is natural after a death of someone close, it is not a mental disorder. After the loss of a child ,“Of the 88 parents, the study found that 79.5 percent were written prescriptions for antidepressants...74.7 percent within a month.”( Medical News Today). That causes for patients to become reliant on previous medication. The longer they are on the drugs the more addictive they become and will one day have to find a stronger version. More drugs can also change the individual's personality and more importantly their long term health. With the more medication a person is prescribed the higher there is a risk of an adverse drug reaction. Whenever a patient is prescribed a pill the person who prescribed it gets an incentive. "There is a huge financial incentive for psychiatrists to prescribe instead of doing psychotherapy..." ( Daniel Carlat, MD). The medical professionals get more back on medication than other alternatives. The medication is cheap to make and expensive to sell. (Insert math cost of creating)
It is a cheap way to get patients in and out of the medical offices. People see benefits in quick visits to the offices. They get in and out in a timely manner, leaving a generous amount of time to complete other tasks they need to get done. The patients go home knowing immediately what they may have.
