Studies have been conducted to explain happiness, and who experiences it. There are three primarily needs of psychology need of satisfaction: autonomy, competence, and relatedness (Howell, Chenot, Hill, & Howell, 2009). Subjective well-being can be affected by the individual’s experiences of the research being presented in the article. Self-determination theory is a significant aspect of happiness because it deals with the three psychological needs, which is considered necessary for development, physically and mentally, for the individual (Howell, Chenot, Hill, & Howell, 2009, p. 2). Self-actualization correlates with happiness because self-actualization is defined as “developing one’s full potential as a human being” (King, 2011, p. 324). Whenever one achieves self-actualization, the individual will be in the purpose of feeling truly happy and know their worth.
