Introduction The incidence of acne vulgaris throughout the world has previously been reported as 9.4%,1 while other estimates in the literature indicate an upper limit for the rates for adults as 50% and 80% for adolescents.2 Outbreaks can eventually lead to scarring or skin discoloration3 and severe forms include high levels of general inflammation as well as the presence of large nodules. In particular, the use of TTO by the author to treat acne vulgaris has been quite successful. Although the trial and error required to find a successful treatment protocol took a great deal of time over a number of years to formulate. In fact, it is precisely this successful treatment that led the author to formulate this proposal, in no small part due to genuine curiosity as to why the treatment might work. The treatment requires the use of 100% TTO and is most effective when used early in the inflammation process. The key is the amount and frequency of application, for an acne lesion treated early it might only require one application or perhaps two over approximately 1-3 days. The application of oil must be quite moderate. In the case of pustules or even papules, treatment takes place over perhaps at most a week and includes once or twice daily application. It is entirely possible that only one application might actually resolve the lesion but the present author has always used multiple treatments.
