Competency 6 For someone who has worked in the school system for 5 years, I have worked with many students that have been diagnosed with Autism and/or Asperger’s Disorders. By the time they enter the school setting they have often already been diagnosed. I was always curious how children could be diagnosed with Autism at such a young age, and I learned a lot of new information on how it is diagnosed. After reading the texts, and samples many of my previous questions were answered about these tests.
The GADS stands for Gilliam Asperger’s Disorder Scale and is used to diagnose people ages 3 through 22 who show certain behaviors that are often traits of Aspergers. The behaviors that are measured on these subscales are: social interactive behaviors, expression of communicative intent, and cognitive and emotional

This test, similar to the GADS test also has different subtests. These subtests are behaviors shown of an individual of Autism. These subtests are :Restricted/Repetitive Behaviors, Social Interaction, Communication, Emotional Responses, Cognitive Style, and Maladaptive Speech. These subtests measure stereotyped behaviors, fixated interests, routines, or rituals. They also measure social behaviors, responses to social situations and the understanding of the intent of social interaction and communication. The subtests also measure extreme emotional responses to everyday situations, idiosyncratic fixated interests, characteristics, and cognitive abilities. They are also tested on items that describe deficits and the idiosyncrasies in verbal communication. This test can also be given to the parents to help with information that the child might not be able to

What if he has a client who says they are struggling within the church, do not know if it is true, can he separates how he feels about the church with how the client is feeling?…

After one week break, week eight, we had to return to the clinical placement, Shalom Manor. Before the break I was on the fourth floor for seven weeks, it took me a couple of weeks to get used to the residents what their likes and dislikes; especially with their seating arrangement in the dining room. Every resident has specific sites that they sit every time they enter the dining room. The reason they sit in the same seat, I believe there would not be confusion with their meal. For example, some table has regular texture diet and another table has a modification in their diet due to different types of health problems.…

In addition to the developmental screening, the ASRS, and the ADI-R, the last test clinician’s may opt to administer is called the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, also known as ADOS. The ADOS “is a semi-structured assessment of communication, social interaction, and play (or imaginative use of materials) for individuals suspected of having autism” (Autism Genetic Resource Exchange, 2001). The ADOS isn’t a paper or pencil test, but rather a test that allows clinicians to observe an individual’s social behavior and communication abilities. These observations can be done by talking to the child and seeing if they respond in a behaviorally appropriate manner in addition to the extent verbal communication is present. Furthermore, clinicians…
