RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS
Generally prostate laser surgery is a safe procedure. However, as with any procedure, complications can occur. Possible complications include:
Bleeding and the need for a blood transfusion.
Urinary tract infection.

BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
If you are on blood thinners, such as warfarin or clopidogrel or nonprescription pain-relieving medicines, such as naproxen sodium or ibuprofen, you may be asked to stop taking them before the procedure.
Your caregiver may ask you to start taking antibiotics before the procedure as a precaution against a bacterial infection. The procedure will not be performed if your urine is infected.
You should have nothing to eat or drink for at least 8 hours before your procedure, or as suggested by your health care provider. You may have a sip of water to take medications not stopped for the procedure.
PROCEDURE
You will be given one of the following:
A medicine that numbs the area (local anesthetic).
A medicine injected into your spine that numbs your body below the waist (spinal anesthetic). A sedative is usually given with spinal anesthetic so you will be relaxed during the
