In 1986, Daryl Siedentop developed the Sports Education curriculum. A curriculum designed for the delivery in physical education programs for the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. The purpose of this teaching model is to educate students in skills, values, and attitudes while playing in sports. Another reason for teaching this model is so that not the only time your students are being physically active is during your class. Sport education is a systematic framework for planning games, implementing sports while the students are with their friends outside of school, and assessing. The assessing part is mainly for the teacher, and the implementing part is for the students; the planning part works for both the teacher during class and the students outside of school too.
While going over the sports education model in your physical education classroom, you should go over somethings before you actually start teaching the model. These things include rules and regulations, fair play and behavior, and modifications of the rules and teams. You should go over these first, before you

You are not eligible in any sport if, after you become a student athlete, you accept any pay for promoting a commercial product or service or allow your name or picture to be used for promoting a commercial product or service. (NCAA) But ironically, the student athletes are required to sign a release that allows both the NCAA and university to use their names, likenesses and images for any purpose. Money pours in from athletic apparel sells, television and radio broadcast, stadium and arena parking passes, game tickets, donations and more. Not only is it unfair that the athletes are being used and don’t see a dime of the billions they are making while they are playing in college, because of the documents signed, the NCAA and universities still make money off…

Our schools sports are very exciting to watch, though the students who are playing could have low grades such as D’s or even F’s. Believing in the quote “academics come before athletics” is one to listen to. Keeping higher grade expectations can help students with their future such as getting a job or holding responsibility. Students should be involved in sports or clubs at the school. Though in order to be in them, there should be rules to look up to to participate.…

While certain schools find it difficult to balance sports and academics, numerous schools across America found a way to perfectly balance the two, proving that sports can be an integral part of one’s scholastic experience. Professors Angela Lumpkin and Judy Favor conducted a study of the performance of high school athletes and non-athletes in Kansas in the 2008-2009 academic school year. Overall, they found that high school athletes earned higher grades, graduated at a higher rate, dropped out of school less frequently, and scored higher on state assessments than non-athletes, which proves that one’s participation in sports does not negatively affect one’s performance in the schoolroom. 9,347 athletes and 9,221 non-athletes reported their GPAs…

Research shows that students who are participating in sport are more likely to have academic success as well as mental, psychosocial and brain health (Muth, 2015) which can lead to overall well being. The different stages of building physical literacy mirror this as they state at “physical activity is essential for healthy child development during the critical first six years of life" (Physical Literacy during Active Start Stage, CS4L). They are clear to communicate that physical active enhances brain function, coordination, social and motor skills, emotional development, leadership and imagination (Physical Literacy During Active Start Stage, CS4L). This emphasis on the many benefits that do not relate on athletics relay the fact that physical literacy is important for all aspects of life. In a society where 17 to 31 percent of children and adolescence are obese (Brooks, 2016).…

The list could go on and on about what is wrong with high school sports in this generation. It starts when they’re young, parent coaches who only qualify because they played the specific sport when they were younger. That is brought into high school, with their child playing the same sport they “coach”, not getting to experience anything other than what their parent’s knowledge and what they could tell them. I’m not saying all high school athletes who are coached by their parents aren’t going to get any better, but I am saying that if you are going to hire a coach for a program, make sure they are more qualified than just being a parent in the district or having a little playing experience. High school is the preparation stage for college, both academically and athletically.…

Highschool sports are causing the scores nationwide to go down, and we should definitely not let them. We are the 31 in math and 17 in reading, on a test that more than 74 countries took, as said on "Have sports teams brought down America's schools?" written by Elizabeth Kolbert. Some sports are damaging our grades and we should definitely take them off. Even though we all love highschool sports and cheerish them, I stronly believe that they are no benefit for us and we should totally consider cutting them off like some parents we saying.…

Based off of evidence and conclusions made from this study, physical education classes should take place more frequently outside. Students should be encouraged to participate in competitive sports. Students are clearly more active during recess over physical education classes, so schools need to take a look at what is going on during PE class and determine if more activity needs to take place or, if necessary, more instruction to the students on motivating them to lead a healthier lifestyle. There needs to be a balance between teaching instruction and then fitness activities taking place during the class. This can refer back to a previous study read about the knowledge and education physical education teachers are receiving prior to becoming…

Why Sportsmanship is Important in Educational Athletics When I first started playing baseball at the age of six years old my coach asked us the same question before and after every game and practice. Imagine a high school athlete, head spinning from tests and quizzes and homework grades, mind swimming with due dates and deadlines, trying not only to balance the hardships high school offers but also juggling his passion of football. Imagine after all his hard work, one of his grades slipped and now he is forced to cut his sport. Do students really deserve this kind of pressure? That is why the no pass, no play rule is a ridiculous rule to follow, since not only does this add extra stress to an average person's head, this rule also completely ignores the fact that students who have learning disabilities and use sports as an escape from their struggles are stripped away of their passion. Sports also has many benefits that not even school can…
