Personal Narrative: Why I Stay Or Should I Go By The Clash

“Should I stay or should I go?” That is a quote from the classic 1980’s song Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash. Not only is this a good song if you like 1980’s music it was also the question that caused an internal conflict for me when I had issues with my job. On one hand, I had a job with perks that really benefited me. On the other hand the job did have its negatives. Since I could only have one job, I had to decide, is my job worth keeping, or should I get a new one?
I was sixteen and basketball season had just ended. My mom had told me before I got my license that she would pay for gas only if I was in a sport, otherwise I had to get a job. Since I did not want to do sports anymore, I decided to apply to Subway. The reason I chose Subway was because I had multiple friends who worked there at the time, one of them being the manager’s son. I thought it would be a for sure bet that I would get the job, and I did. A few days

I had two choices to choose from. One, I could take the new job, lose all of the people I work with, lose the benefit of free food, lose the guarantee of good hours, and have the possibility of having a job I did not like. Two, I could stay at Subway which I knew was the safe bet, deal with the same thing day in and day out, and never get an opportunity to find something better. After struggling between the choices I decided to leave Subway to work at Joe’s Pizza. The biggest deciding factor at the time was that I would be getting paid just about the same amount to do a whole lot less work.
