In July 2014, a federal judge approved a deal that would compensate NFL football players who have filed concussion-related claims. U.S. District Judge Anita Brody made the ruling. This was two weeks after the National Football League removed the $675 million cap on the damages. Brody was concerned that $675 million was not enough to cover the damages.
Brody also stated that a class action settlement is a lot better than the alternative, which would be years of difficult litigation while retired players conditions' continue to deteriorate. It is estimated that over 4,500 retired football players have filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for concussions. One of those formal football players is Tony Dorsett.
