When a criminal committees a serious offense they should have to service some time in jail or prison. Even though jails and prisons are getting crowd, putting an offender on probation most likely will not help the recidivism rate go down. It would probably be good idea if the first time offenders or petty crimes did spend a month in cell; the initial shock might cause them to never committee another crime. I don’t think lowering the case load is the problem. I think it is good idea that when you are on probation you should have to be in school or have job or be actively looking for job. I think that is unfair that when Juvenile committees a crime it is charge as delinquent act not a crime.
Which means when a Juvenile does apply for a job the question comes up have you committed a crime they can say no which isn’t fair. Even if they get rid of the question about committing a crime on job application, if they do back ground check it is still going to show up. Instead I think if you haven’t commit a crime in the last fifteen years and have shown good behavior you record should be clear. I know it is a huge risk to take letting a criminal work for you but sometimes you have to take a risk. Yes I do think probation could work if they change a few things and try some new things
