The Globalization of Gender As described in Cultural Anthropology: A Toolkit for a Global Age, globalization has been allowing people around the world to connect with each other. These interactions are making a reality the exchange of ideas, money, goods and services. Globalization has been certainly changing the lives of men and women. For instance, globalization brought more jobs for women, which is excellent since we live in a world where the men’s salary is not enough to support a family in many cases. They are also being affected by the new ideologies of the women in their families, who have more modern ways of thinking, dressing, tending their families, and educating themselves. Personally, I can see a great difference between my grandparents’ marriage, my parents’ marriage, and my own. While my grandma was a lady of a strong character, she was constantly tending for her family’s needs. Of course, she was a housewife, but also had her own business. In addition, due to the traditional rules of our own hometown, she never wore make up or pants. Moreover, she never in her whole life, complained about the double role. For her, working two shifts were natural. As unnatural as it can be, she was contented with her …show more content…
However, based on my perceived race and gender, the path to conquer the American Dream, has been covered with thorns and barriers, due to racism, prejudice, social intolerance, and lack of multicultural understanding. Fortunately, I am very resilient and those ideologies do not stop me from achieving my goals in life. However, there were times where my feelings and self-esteem felt deeply hurt. First of all, because I was unable to understand the amount of hate against others, which some individuals keep in their minds and hearts. Second, I felt out of place, because I was accustomed to be appreciated by my positive personal and professional performance in my home country. Today, Whiteness and White Supremacy are something that I can deal with
