Pros And Cons Of Cobras

Improved Essays
Imagine you are touring a desert. You see a huge snake and a mammal not much bigger than the average household animal. They are fighting over a habitat. The fighting becomes intense and there is much hostility. Who will win? Many officials and scientists have studied these animals, learning how they live and what their lifestyle is like. If an Indian grey mongoose and a king cobra were engaging in combat, then I believe a mongoose will win because of many reasons and evidence. This argument supports that claim with evidence from other articles describing the mongoose’s defenses, attacks, and reputation. To begin, I think the mongoose will win because of its many defensive mechanisms. According to Grolier Online (2015), …show more content…
According to Klum (2001), the text states that cobras are, “aggressive”. Cobras may be pretty intimidating, but Klum (2001) also states that cobras are, “shy and retreating” so cobras are not as aggressive as they may seem. In Campbell (2015), the text states, “Cobras have short fangs.” and, “Their bites are potentially dangerous.” Cobra venom is pretty dangerous and may seem like certain death to a victim, but as I have stated before (see paragraph #2), mongooses have thick hair that would make a bite less affective and mongooses can tolerate some of the venom. According to Campbell (2015), cobras, “are deaf” and, “have a rather slow strike”. Cobras can respond to visual cues, but hearing loss is a major disadvantage. In conclusion, a mongoose is sure to win due to its many defenses and attacks and its reputation. So, if an Indian grey mongoose and a king cobra were engaging in combat then, the mongoose is sure to win because of the information shown. This means that if you ever see a small cat or squirrel- like creature, remember that they are not as cute and cuddly as they

It is at this point in the essay where examining the specific journal entries of Lewis, Clark and the known associates of the expedition help prove the question of whether or not the expedition was truly well prepared for their journey westward. Upon beginning their journey, Lewis was attentive as ever, “staying up till midnight, making observations every five minutes or so for an hour or more.” This was only practice, as the group was still making its way down the Ohio, and was often frustrating and impossible, but as seen in the journals, the expedition progressed. Maybe most particularly, research of the expedition could not be done without the journals, and it is the quality of the journals that show how the expedition was indeed prepared for what lay west of the Mississippi River. This can be seen through the writings of Lewis, who, as stated previously, was educated both by Jefferson and the educated elite of the country before departing.…
