To become even a basic doctor, 12 years of college and university is beneficial. This will increase on specialty. Four years for a bachelor's in science, for the eight years of medical school and three to seven years of residency. Not to mention the MCAT Test, obtaining a license and extra exams, such as the MCCQE part one and two. Doctors must renew their license every year, in some countries like Canada. Without a renewal, doctors can not practice medicine. Doctors can also become certified through a board within their country, Canada has one called the Medical Council of Canada.
