Any cosmetic or medical companies will tell consumers that their products are the best since it has been tested on animals for safety, but the truth behind animal testing will make buyers think twice about their merchandise. Nowadays, more and more people are teaming up against animal testing. Laboratory testing is done on substances that make up medication and cosmetics, such as perfume, lotion, soap, etc. Animals are used to develop medical treatments, determine the toxicity of medications, and check the safety of products destined for human use. Makeup industries such Revlon and other types of industries had discontinued animal testing simply because it doesn’t work anymore. “The food and Drug Administration (FDA) has noted 92 percent of all drugs that are shown to be safe and effective in animal tests fail in human trial because they don’t work or are dangerous”, claims Noah Berlatsky in his document, Animal Testing is Bad Science. Yet, the biggest reason for the discontinuation is advances in technology. “In 2009, industry trade group Cosmetics Europe, along with a division of the European Commission on Research & Innovation, launched a $68-million research initiative to develop lab technologies and computational models capable of predicting the toxicity of chemicals in humans” says Gregory Mone in his article, New Models in Cosmetics Replacing Animal Testing. Nowadays, this gives industries a better advantage in decision to invest their money into better accuracy rather than failed…

As discussed previously, animal testing for medical use is ethical because it furthers human knowledge and safety, whereas using animals for cosmetics is unethical because it doesn’t further our knowledge just tests what we already know. Numerous cosmetic companies test on animals because they want to add untested ingredients that aren’t necessary to add into their products ("About Cosmetics Animal Testing"). These ingredients aren 't necessary to use because there are already pre-tested and safe ingredients that can be used instead, so there doesn’t have to be testing on animals. Cruelty-free companies use the already many safe ingredients available in their products, so they do not test on animals ("About Cosmetics Animal Testing”). If these companies do feel the need to test their products they turn to other alternatives of testing before using animals (Keville).…

Testing cosmetics on animals is a very controversial issue that has grown over the past years. I believe that cosmetic animal testing is wrong and should be banned because it is cruel, inaccurate, not very reliable, and has been proven to be unnecessary. Approximately 200,000 animals will suffer and die every year for cosmetics around the world. We as a whole have all decided that this is not necessary which is why we stopped making testing on animal cosmetics something that had to be done. Companies still continue to do it.…

According to Troy Seidle a pole concluded that, “88 percent of us believe animal testing causes pain and suffering to animals and that such suffering just for cosmetics isn’t worth it, especially when safe ingredients are already available,”(Seidle). Considering that most people don’t feel the need to buy products with newly tested ingredients, why should companies continue to do that it is not an absolutely necessary practice. There are thousands of chemicals out there that have already gone through the process of being tested so it wouldn’t be like companies couldn’t make new products, they could make many. Yes companies want to make money by selling newly improved products but that is not going to make people want to buy products that aren’t apart of their daily use. Gregory Mone states that animal testing is a long and expensive process and can take several years and use up millions of dollars to carry out, (Mone).…

This quote explains animal testing perfectly; “Many cosmetic companies test their new products and ingredients by forcing rabbits, hamsters, and mice, among others, to endure horrific practices such as breathing in poisonous fumes or having lethal chemicals poured into their eyes and rubbed into their skin”(Natasha Cole, Cruelty Free Cosmetics). Many supporters of animal testing will argue that it can have positive outcomes, however, humanity uses it in vain ways. This makes it especially wrong because humans are treating animals cruelly and inhumanely mostly to look attractive. Continuing on about cosmetic testing on animals: “Animal testing for cosmetics is an outdated practice and does not provide the most reliable results regarding the safety, performance, or possible reactions that cosmetic products or ingredients could have in a person” (Natasha Cole, Cruelty Free Cosmetics). The reason to continue these means of testing on animals proves to be no longer relevant because easier and more reliable ways of testing do indeed exist.…

When thinking of the animal kingdom it is important to keep in mind the benefits they bring to the modern era, for example, medical research and food. Even though animal rights and suffrage has been a problem for hundreds of years the spark of modern interest in the state of animal rights seemed to ignite with Australian philosopher, Peter Singer. Regardless of scientific evidence that humans share a lot of qualities with that of a chimp…

Just in the year 2014, over one million animals were subjects of cosmetic testing; that may not seem like a big number, but that number does not include the one-hundred million mice and rats used for the testing (PETA). PETA claims that surveys prove that adults in the United States who support animal testing support only the tests for medical advance, not the tests involving cosmetics. Numerous companies that produce makeup, skincare, and hair care products continue to use animals as subjects of their tests; some of these companies include M.A.C., Mary Kay, Neutrogena, John Frieda, and Dove. Large portions of the list of companies that partake in animal testing are large, well-known companies. So why are these powerless creatures still subjects…
