Some universities are not as diverse to claim to be. According to an article published by UWire in 2014, “studies show that Lock Heaven University isn’t as diverse as it claims to be in their admissions literature” (UWire 2014). The most important question is why is it so important for colleges and universities to promote diversity? Students really care about a melting pot on campus, such as, meeting people from different background, exchanging ideologies, learning about new cultures without having to travel the world. Some even suggest the increase of minorities on campus to promote diversity, but it is not adequate. “According to Lock Heaven University’s Institutional Research, in 2013, 86 percent of the student body was white, and 9.6 percent were either African American or Hispanic. This is not shocking though. In the last 10 years, the minority population only increase by 5.6 percent” (UWire 2014). The article continued to describe the sentiments of students regarding diversity at the own school. Some might feel that the minority ratio is too low in their school, how can colleges and universities make students feel comfortable in their environment? “I wish there were more students here that look like me. I wish there were more Hispanics and Native Americans. I wish Lock Heaven were more colorful. In a majority of my class there are only three or four people of color, Leslie Miller, a senior nursing said”
