As we decided what issue to address, our group looked for ways we could benefit the school we attend. One of these ways was to create a tutoring center for AP students. Having a project that applied so closely to where we lived and where we spent most of our time made the project more meaningful. Because this project had an impact on our lives gave us extra motivation in researching how we could put this project into place. I was able to learn much about what I …show more content…
These are the benefits I have seen from our democratic government. This part I was able to have fun with, however there were also parts I had challenges with. I have never thrived in working with groups. I have trouble sharing the same vision as others during group projects. I would much rather do things myself. This challenged me but also made me improve in working with others. I felt we were able to communicate well and remain on the same page. This was key in achieving our common goal. However difficult this project has been, am grateful to have learned what I have learned from it and I am also glad to be one step closer to

Since attending Spelman College, I have evolved as a person mentally and socially, especially in my efforts regarding volunteering and the production of social change. Before attending Spelman and joining Lady Buds, a mentoring program for young underprivileged girls, I understood to a degree, how social change impacts people and their communities. However, after being a part of Lady Buds, my understanding of social change vastly increased, specifically how it affects the communities within Atlanta and on a larger scale our society. Upon entering Spelman college, I knew I wanted to be involved with a mentoring group, and while there was a multitude of groups to choose from, I decided on Lady Buds because their mission statement resonated with my goal before entering Spelman College.…

It wasn’t until the middle of my freshman year of high school that I gained the self-confidence I had only dreamed about.…

Greg Boyle’s work, on the other hand, focused on the idea of advocacy, and this deeply affected the manner in which I viewed my own involvement at Samaritans. Boyle was working with individuals who were deemed as the lowest members of society, and this is parallel to the people who use Samaritans as a service. Through the work that Boyle did, he was able to listen to the needs of these individuals by simply being their friend, and was able to advocate for them to be able to better their positions in society. Similarly, at Samaritans, I learned to befriend individuals and advocated for them as members of society through…
