Consumers for the Therapeutic Mentoring program will be identified and recruited through referrals from Ford Elementary School in St. Louis City. Teachers, counselors, administrators and parents will refer students to the Mentor Coordinator (MC). The MC will appropriately pair the TM and the youth. Partners Mentoring Youth was founded in 1978 as Larimer County Partners, Inc. in response to a need that was lacking in northern Colorado. Community leaders in the 1970's saw a dramatic increase in the number of youth offending, entering the Juvenile Justice system and then re-offending. The District Attorney, Mayor and other business and community leaders, seeking ways to help these youth, found the Partners model being used effectively in Denver as a youth-mentoring program.
