One being its southern sibling, South Korea. When it once was the whole nation of Korea, it soon became a victim of the Cold War and split up into two Koreas then went to war with each other in the Korean War. Ever since then, the two sides have had complications. One example that shows it in the present day was in August of this year. Global News reported that two countries exchanged gunfire when “the North lobbed a single artillery round at a South Korean border town” ( Hyung-Jim Kim). If the North were to keep provoking a war with the South, they would need their weapons to take down the South Koreans vast army who is trained and backed up by the US. China is also another concerning county for North Korea. Their relationship has evolved over time ever since the Korean War. China is still an ally with North Korea due to their common interests and values, but is also heavily criticized for some of their actions. International Policy Digest has reported that China “criticized North Korea’s actions and further agreed to the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1718 and Resolution 1874 which imposed sanctions on DPRK”. The Resolutions were relating to North Korea’s nuclear weapons testing. If North Korea were to anger China anymore with their actions, and China realizes what type of country they are, North Korea would need their nuclear weapons to safeguard them from the most populated and 3rd largest country in the world. It also has the world’s largest army, according to World Atlas, with 2,285,000 active soldiers. The final country North Korea has to worry about is Japan. Like South Korea, Japan is another victim of North Korea’s harassment.
