Since homeschoolers are not part of the public school system, they do not receive any government funding. Consequently, homeschooling can be quite expensive for most families needing to purchase curriculum materials (Negative Effects and Aspects of Homeschooling). Another dispute of homeschooling is the time and resources needed from parents. Students need someone to guide and motivate them through school even if it 's self taught material. Homeschooling is not for those who lack patience. It takes years of practice for teachers to understand the slow progress a student might make. Despite most beliefs, homeschooled students are not under socialized. Even though they do not interact with children their own age every day, students learn to get along with people of all ages. Homeschooled students are able to interact with friends any time of the day instead of “after school hours” (Romanowski 125). Another misconception of homeschoolers is that they have trouble getting into college. On the contrary, homeschooled students are more likely to be accepted to prestigious schools like Harvard, Princeton, MIT, and Yale. The public school system is failing Americans in teaching its students. Education has become mediocre in material and testing. Standards are lowered so more people can pass. High school graduates are not as ready as they should be to take college courses. Education has adopted methods of just lecturing kids instead of involving them and letting themselves be submersed in the material (Pallas). Active learning is a crucial part to education. It engages students and helps them retain more of the information taught because it included more than just their hearing or visual input (Prince). Homeschooling uses active learning and daily duties in an educational way. There are many reasons why homeschooling is not for everyone like cost and time. Yet, there are many pros to homeschooling that make some of its teaching methods a viable option to be implemented into the public school system. Homeschoolers score better on standardized tests than public or private school students (Romanowski). If homeschoolers can score better on tests just because if teaching methods, then in the same way, public schooled students can do better just by being taught along the same lines as homeschoolers. Homeschooling could be the solution to helping America in the fight to raise their ranking in world education
