The present issue must be elucidated if we are to move forward; we must allow the court of law to apply legal judgement as to its legality. As leaders of this department, we have a responsibility to the organization and we are accountable for the actions of the men and women of this department. As stated in Griswold (1965), “the First Amendment has a penumbra where privacy is protected from government intrusion” (p.3). Likewise, our officers’ privacy rights must be protected from the public and/or media. Finally, if we are to set a precedent, it ought to be that we hold officers accountable for their actions and we will not tolerate random acts of violence nor will we acquiesce to meritless
