The Scarlet Letter- The scarlet letter promotes the impure act of adultery. The red stands as a symbol of sin and evil. It could also mean that Hester can burn in hell for her impurity.
The Scarlet Letter- In chapter 13, the scarlet letter is not really mentioned so much as a symbol of impurity, but as a symbol of her calling. With all of her charity work, people began to ignore the origin of the scarlet A, but beginning to call it a sign of Abel.
Abel- Abel is a character in the Bible that was killed by his brother Cain for Cain's sinful jealousy. Abel is the first person killed in the world,. The Scarlet Bird- The bird represents Hester and Pearl's relationship. A bird give offspring, and traits are passed down, colors of feather and wing tips and beak shapes are also passed down. In a way or sense, Hester passed down her sin to Pearl because Pearl is the end result in her sinful crime.
The Meteor- In chapter 12, Dimmesdale stands on the scaffold and asks Pearl to come up and talk to him. As they were standing there conversing, a meteor outlined a A in the sky. Dimmesdale interpreted this as sign to show support for Hester and the townspeople thought this was a sign that heaven gained another angel, Governor Winthrop.
