The research problem that I have chosen in Unit 1 was pressure ulcers. This problem needs to be researched in order to properly address such problems in nursing home settings and to be able to find ways to at least prevent if not solve the problem is not only promoting positive patient care outcomes, but also increasing the quality of care of the nursing home facilities. As nurses, we are encouraged to apply evidence-based practice in our profession. In finding evidence we have to determine the validity of the source. This paper aims to determine or review the literature of Yap T.L., Kennerly, Simmons, Buncher, Miller, Kim, and Yap W.Y. (2013).

(2013) clearly presented the problem of PUs and its prevalence. The research study by Yap et al. (2013) is considered quasi-experimental research because it involved an implementation of interventions, the researchers lacked certain amount of control of the intervention and management settings (Grove, Gray, & Burns, 2015). The part that of the research being experimental was the presence of intervention and control groups. Certain groups of LTC facilities served as treatment groups because they have adopted the musical cues for moving or repositioning the residents. The other LTC facilities that did not adopt the intervention were considered the control group. The level of evidence of the study belongs in the second half or considered medium best evidence practice, which is the single quasi-experimental …show more content…
Peer-reviewed articles, according to Grove et al. (2013), have been submitted to a journal editor, “who identified scholars familiar with the topic to review the manuscript” (p. 167). The researchers received a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Interdisciplinary Nursing Quality Research Initiative program. This means that there is an external party interested in their study. Researchers did not have financial or other kind personal conflicts with the paper, which makes this article reliable.
Timeliness
In this particular study, there were 51 total references that the researchers utilized. The references were published from 2000 to 2012. The reference articles have addressed the prevalence of PUs, different factors that contribute to the development of PU, and interventions. Gallistel and Gibbon (2000) was the oldest reference cited but their article was appropriate because the theory of conditioning was applied in Yap et al. (2013) study. Playing music over the public address system is conditioning the staff and the ancillary members to help move or reposition residents.
