Primary Care Physicians Research Paper

Primary care physicians consist of family care doctors, internists, pediatricians, obstetricians, and emergency medical practitioners. By selecting any of these directions after schooling, I can be employed in places anywhere in the world. Job security is bright, as the need for healthcare providers grow with the rising population and growing medical practices. Jobs are available in almost any city worldwide, and the need for primary care physicians outweigh the physicians available to fill these positions, especially in underserved areas. Furthermore, I learned that in exchange for working in these underserved areas, there are scholarship and loan programs available to assist with the financial burden of medical training. I discovered that monetary benefits are also available when signing on to work at one of the facilities, offering anything from sign-on bonuses to relocation allowances. The current average cost of attending medical school is over two hundred thousand dollars, however the state and medical association incentives make it more affordable to attend medical school now than it has ever been in the past. Getting into medical school still remains the most challenging from higher GPA requirements, high MCAT scores, community involvement, and course prerequisites. No less than twelve years of education are required in order to become a fully paid practicing physician. “Physicians and surgeons have demanding education and training requirements. Almost all physicians complete at least 4 years of undergraduate school, 4 years of medical school, and, depending on their specialty, 3 to 8 years of internship and residency programs” (OOH, How to become a Physician or Surgeon para. 1). The application process is also extremely competitive, with far more applicants than there are seats available each year. With all of the financial incentives to assist with the high cost of training, I came to the conclusion that it is more difficult to get accepted into an accredited medical school, than it is to actually pay for the schooling
