Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to educate readers on guidelines to prevent hospital-acquired pressure ulcers and how these guidelines are not being implemented. Hospital-acquired pressure ulcers are overall preventable if the right interventions are used. If they are present, these ulcers can be a result of several factors. One being the nurse’s lack of acting upon prevention strategies for patients and lack of making these interventions a priority. However there are several factors to help prevent these hospital-acquired ulcers, such as using prophylactic dressing, continuously assessing the patient, and helping the patient with range of motion. I will always be constantly assessing my patients and their skin integrity and other factors relating to pressure ulcers. I will also encourage my coworkers to do the same and make sure that I express the importance of the prevention of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers to all other employees, such as nursing assistants. Lastly, I will even educate the family in regards to preventing the ulcers once the patient returns home and signs that a pressure ulcer may be occurring.
