President James Polk's Manifest Destiny

Have you ever wondered what the country would look like if President Polk decided to not go to war with Mexico? President James Polk, who favored the Manifest Destiny, would choose to take another route. In fact, he might focus on a negotiation with the Mexican government, in which he would offer the protection from European countries, the help in building up a stable government, as well as the establishment of a strong relationship between two countries in exchange for the annexation of Texas and the area of California and New Mexico. Because of this continuous changing, most of the presidents did not gain enough trust and power from their citizens and hence they could easily be attacked by the press for the action of negotiating with United States’ commissioners. So the first step that President Polk needed to take to avoid another war was to make the negotiation publicly and offer a good deal of compromise. Moreover, on August 24, 1821, Mexican people got their independence after a long and struggle war against Spanish forces that were weakened by the power of Napoleon in Europe (“Struggle for Mexican Independence”).
