The abuser might do this by saying to their partner that it was their last resort of punishment. The abuser often tells the victim they to are to blame for the abuse because they did not live up their expectations. Therefore, abusers utilize violence as a means of negative reinforcement to get their partner to behave a certain way. The victims of Battered Women Syndrome are so extensively manipulated by their abusers that they genuinely believe that they pose no guilt on their partner and for this reason victims with Battered Women Syndrome do not report that the abuse is taking place. “Be completely humble and gentle; Be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace”(Ephesians 4:2-3, New International Version). Patience, love, and humility are important virtues in the sacred vow that is marriage. An absence of these virtues often leads to a destructive relationship between man and wife.
