Middle Grades are probably the most difficult grades to get through for everyone. During this time of physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and moral development for these students learning about the history of Georgia is literally the last thing they think about, if they even really think about it at all. These students are some of the most difficult students to keep their attention focused on the subject matter at hand, unless of course we are discussing them, then and only then will the teacher get their full attention. On this date worker visited the residence of Mrs. Caroline Key, for the purpose of assessing her need for services. When worker arrived, Ms. Key was sitting in a recliner preparing her meds for the week. Ms. Key was wearing a clean night grown, her hair was clean and brushed, and she did not have body odor. The home was clean and clutter free but had a mild urine and feces smell. Worker introduced herself and explained the reason for the visit.…
Meyers Park Traditional Elementary School is a CMS Magnet school serving kindergarten through 5th grade with students admitted by lottery. The school is located in the Meyers Park neighborhood, adjacent to Queens University and has been in existence since 1928. According to the North Carolina Report Card for the 2014-2015 school year, the school exceeded growth during this academic period and has a performance letter grade of A. Current data from CMS show enrollment at 726 students, with 315 Black, 347 White, 36 Hispanic or Latino, 13 Multi-Racial and 40 Asian students. 34% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.…
The teachers I observed at the lower grade levels of first and second grade used Core Curriculum. These teachers followed specific guidelines in their teacher’s guide books to help them schedule activities and lessons for the week. They are provided with work books and materials but get to decide on how to execute those plans. The teacher who taught the upper grade levels of high school had their whole year planned out. I have loved every moment spent at my site these past 8 weeks and look forward to the weeks ahead. I am observing at the first Pre-K in the district that I graduated from. The school and classroom is very welcoming, I have enjoyed getting to know all 16 of the children, seeing their shyness slip away and their personalities come out. Being able to be apart of the children’s day once a week has taught me so much about how a public school is ran and especially the Pre-K. The teacher and Ed tech have shared so much insightful information with me about classrooms and working with 4 and 5 year olds.…
The subject is an adolescent female, she is 19 years old and African American. The subject lives on a military installation and has a diverse group of friends. I observed the subject eating dinner in her bedroom while watching TV and doing homework. The subject was eating homemade spaghetti with garlic bread in addition the subject chose water for her dinner drink. While at my observation this morning, the teacher would step in and help children when they were fighting for a toy, or when one of the children turned off the computer while he was playing, and he did not know how to turn it back on to keep doing this painting game. 2. On today, March 23, 2017, I had the opportunity to observe Makai, a five-year old atypical student in Ms. Parker’s atypical pre-k classroom at C.C. Spaulding Elementary School. From entering the classroom, I could instantly tell that they try to keep the environment as calm as possible. When I arrived, the class was finishing up their circle time activities on the carpet. The class had about eight students present. There were two teacher assistants in the classroom to provide ample support to the students.…
This year the sixth grade students boarded the plane to Middle School. For the first time, the sixth grade students had to be able to do many things that they were not used to doing in fifth grade back in Elementary School. Some of those things include being able to open a combination lock, being able to get to classes on time with a four minute passing period, and they had to manage nine different classes throughout the entire school day. Also, the sixth graders did some really exciting things this year such as mummifying a chicken in Social Studies. The CES school I would most like to attend is BYU-Provo. From the very time I stepped onto the campus I knew that BYU-Provo was the school I wanted to attend. In 2013 my family and I had the opportunity to drop my oldest brother off at the school for his first year of college. Although we weren't there for very long I can still remember feeling captivated by the school for various reasons. This writer observed toddlers at group therapy session with their mothers. The toddlers ranged from the age of 11/2 -3 year olds, there were 4 girls and 3 boys. In the setting, the toddlers had a variety of toys, books, coloring boards, puzzles to play with while their mothers were in therapy. On my first day of observing Mrs. Albita’s 4th grade classroom, I first noticed how she selected the student that would write the objective for the day. Mrs. Alba has a jar with popsicle sticks that contain the names of all the students in her class. She selects one stick and that student is responsible for writing the class objective correctly. First the student has to listen to the teacher carefully. Next, the student writes down what he/she heard.…
Introduction For the observation of a school and community event, I observed Back to School (BTSN) at Van Ness Elementary School. Since I am a teacher at Van Ness, I had to observe the event as if I was a community member who knew nothing of the school. This allowed me to closely watch how teachers interacted with parents, their effort in welcoming all visitors and how they delivered important information. As I reflect on this experience and my knowledge about the initiatives, programs and policies at Van Ness, I started to analyze some of the school’s efforts and their needs in strengthening their school and family partnership.…
Throughout the course of my five days at the SAHETI primary school, I found myself astonished at various activities that are done throughout the day. Through the course of my practical, I was given a Grade two class to observe and I unquestionably discovered a recently developed love for that age group. I was always adamant from the first time I knew I wanted to become a teacher that I wanted to teach Grade one’s, but my thoughts have definitely evolved. During the course of my observing I was more than willing to help with various activities such as marking, doing spelling tests with the children, as well as helping them with any difficulties they were having with their work.
