Pre-Dental Admissions Reflection Paper

In the month of February from the 18th- 20th I got the chance to attend the Pre-Dental Admissions Workshop (PAW). This workshop has made a huge impact that will better my future as well as our community. As most of you know I want be a Dentist and once I get experience I would like to come back to Fort McDowell so that I can help provide oral care to our community. This workshop was put on by a Dental Student name Cristin Hasse who is in her third year of Dental School at the A.T. Still University which is located in east mesa. This three-day workshop was geared towards Native Americans who are either doing their pre-dent or finishing their pre-dent requirements so they know the many steps on how to apply to dental schools and the specifics in what they look for. This workshop did a great job by explaining how to prepare for the Dental Admissions Test (DAT). The DAT is a test which all pre-dental students are required to take prior to applying for dental schools. We also got a chance to meet the great Billy Mills and sit and listen to his presentation which was very empowering for me personally to keep pushing forward. I also got to meet a very important person to the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health and was the Dean of (ASDOH) Dr. Jack Dillenberg who had a great welcoming personality with a good sense of humor. Another important person I met was Dr. George Blue Spruce, Assistant Dean at (ASDOH) who is also the first Native American Dentist. Getting to know Dr. Blue Spruce and hearing a piece of how he became a dentist really motivated me to push harder to become the best dentist I can possibly be.
