I conducted a running record on C.J. a student in my practicum class, he read the book, Aliens in underpants, to me. This student scored In the instructional range with a ninety two percent. This book had a little over one hundred words and out of these words he made ten errors and four self-corrections. I noticed that the student was a little slower of a reader compared to other students in the class. Most of the errors he made were that he failed to use meaning and structure. He used a lot of visual when reading meaning the beginning of the word and end of the word was the same as the actual word. Another thing I noticed that C.J. did a lot was skip words. When he did his self-corrections of words he visual and structure to correct himself.

Doing clinical observations are very important because it gives a change to see student and teacher interactions first hand and get to see how well a student is responding. During my observations at Biddeford Intermediate School, I got the change to shadow an Ed. Teach in a life skills room. This was a great opportunity for me because it was a chance to see another kind of intervention done in the special education department. I have done many observations with an occupational therapist, and they have always been in lighting and very educational, but to visit a life skills room gave me more perspective on the special education department as a whole.…

He could read 50 words per minute, while only correcting himself once and repeating two different words once. Andres instructional reading level is first grade; he does not read for fluency or meaning whatsoever. Even though he is a slow reader he relied on his syllables to sound out words as best as possible when coming across words he was not familiar with. Andres has several strengths such as using tracking to read most of the words, he only skipped two words while reading the entire passage. He self-corrected himself once meaning he is not realizing the mistakes he has made while reading.…

For oral reading fluency, I would focus mainly on phrasing and problem-solving unknown words. The student struggled with phrasing a lot throughout the passage. He rushed through this and did not focus on phrasing or pausing throughout. Along with that, the student lacks problem solving for unknown words. He frequently just skipped over a word or stared at it until the answer was given to him.…

After he completed his writing sample I asked if he usually makes webs to organize his thoughts, or reads it aloud when he’s completed it for feedback and that’s when it dawned on me that Jaron is not confident in his reading capabilities. I don’t know what this stems from I could possibly infer from his speech impediment he might deem himself as ‘different’ but I can’t say for certain. I think Jaron’s writing could improve if he were to begin…

If I were able to pick the line for Spring 2016 I would pick Potential Candidates that would help keep this chapter alive and better the chapter as well. I would chose Courtney Lall because she's very passionate and has made connections with other sister from other chapters. I would then choose Melanie Taveras. She hasn't been and interest long, but she knows a lot about the chapter and comes up with good suggestions when it comes to fundraising. about the.…

I had the pleasure of observing Wendy Brown. Ms. Brown teaches first through fifth grade special need students. She teaches math and language arts by being a co-teacher, and she also teaches in the resource room. Her students never called her Ms. Brown, but they called her Ms. Wendy. During my observations I experienced how Ms. Wendy taught in a co-teacher setting, how she taught in a resource room setting, and how the students react when things change in the classroom.…

In the past month, I have been traveling to Williams Middle School in Florence, South Carolina to observe a dance educator and Coker alumni, Ashley Lesage. After the opportunity of observing twice, there were a few things I agreed with and did not agree with as far as the students and teaching methods. September 15, 2016 was my first time observing in Ms. Lesage’s classroom. One of the first things I noticed amongst the students were their clothing attire. In a dance studio, usually an observer would see leotards, tights, leggings, t-shirt, and a tanktop.…

On my first day of observing Mrs. Albita’s 4th grade classroom, I first noticed how she selected the student that would write the objective for the day. Mrs. Alba has a jar with popsicle sticks that contain the names of all the students in her class. She selects one stick and that student is responsible for writing the class objective correctly. First the student has to listen to the teacher carefully. Next, the student writes down what he/she heard.…

Good evening it is good to see so many familiar faces again! I am Christal Klinger a born and raised Colorado native growing up in different suburbs around the Denver Metro area until my family settled in the mountains above Boulder, Colorado. Once I graduated from high school, I went back to Denver, found the love of my life (we just celebrated 22 blissful years) and then moved and have lived for the past 17 years in a small town on the High Plains called Kiowa (like the Native American tribe). We have two amazing children, one has already flown the coop and lives in Denver, while the other is still home with us, a junior in high school and keeps us busy.…

There are several students in the class that have interested me so far. But there is one little boy named Kevin who I have noticed has interested me the most because of how he acts in the class and works with the other students. He is a very sweet boy who I have noticed at times does have a hard time with school work but knows he has the teacher and aids to help him with the struggles of these. I have had the opportunity to watch him grow and become better at certain things since I have been observing and I have been able to help him one-on-one with his personal goals. What drew my attention towards him is that I noticed he is out of seven students who struggles the most with getting their work done during the day and making sure he pays attention also.…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…

Being able to go out and observe in a classroom is something that makes me so excited to be a teacher in the future. I was able to observe a classroom and learn many techniques to encourage learning. On October 11 I went to Discovery Elementary School to observe in Mrs. Hibma’s classroom. This was a 3rd grade classroom, and this interested me because I would love to teach 3rd grade. There were 27 students in the classroom, which I found to be a large classroom.…

Throughout the course of my five days at the SAHETI primary school, I found myself astonished at various activities that are done throughout the day. Through the course of my practical, I was given a Grade two class to observe and I unquestionably discovered a recently developed love for that age group. I was always adamant from the first time I knew I wanted to become a teacher that I wanted to teach Grade one’s, but my thoughts have definitely evolved. During the course of my observing I was more than willing to help with various activities such as marking, doing spelling tests with the children, as well as helping them with any difficulties they were having with their work.
