Methodology
This research and project will use practice-based research method to collect qualitative data and reach the outcome. Candy stated that ‘Practice-based research is an original investigation undertaken in order to gain new knowledge partly by means of practice and the outcomes of that practice’(2006, p1). My research aims to discover some methods and principles in the collaboration of illustration and packaging design by data analysis and a project practice.
My project will based on a existing brand and logo, creating a series illustrations, which makes this brand more unique and customer attracted. Cow and the Moon artisan gelato bar is a famous ice-cream shop located in Newtown, Sydney, they owned the honour of the world …show more content…
‘Each case study is instrumental to learning about the effects of the marking regulations but there will be important coordination between the individual studies. We may call the work collective case study (Stake 1995, p3).’ Compared with analysing only one example, I could contrast different ways they used and summarise the good solutions. I also could compare the similar cases and find out a stand out solution. I will look at these examples to decide what kind of the character or pattern is suitable for Cow and the Moon. The character or pattern should represent the concept of the brand, and the style should work well with the existing logo. After that, I will find out how they apply illustration in different package design since different packages have different styles and sizes.
Stake(1995, p4) stated that ‘It may be useful to try to select cases which are typical or presentative of other cases’. I will observe 3 to 5 representative gelato and dessert in Melbourne as my case study. La Belle Miette is a French style dessert shop in Melbourne (Figure ). They use vintage style illustration with romantic tone, which makes their shop and brand easy to memorised. I will go there observing and photographing how they use illustration in different
