The (CAPS) PTSD scale was created by the National Center for PTSD staff. The CAPS is one of the most commonly used tools to provide information on a variety of measures assessing trauma and PTSD in addition to other mental health disorders that may occur with PTSD ("PTSD: National Center for PTSD Home," n.d.). The Caps is the gold standard in PTSD assessment. The CAPS-5 assessment is a 30-item structured interview that can be used in children as well as adults. The full interview takes 45-60 minutes to administer. When utilizing this standardized instrument, it may or can detect the following determination: make current (past month) diagnosis of PTSD, make lifetime diagnosis of PTSD, and assess PTSD symptoms over the past week. In addition, this assessment, had revisions made to comply with current standards and diagnosis of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5th Edition(DSM-5).
