During World War One, many posters were hanged in order to encourage men to be enlisted into the army. One of the most famous poster published in July 6, 1916 was the “I want you” poster, which has a picture of Uncle Sam who symbolizes many important things during that time frame. This poster was directed to young men and to encourage them to join the army. This was a famous poster because it directed a message to all the people and it also contain many symbolizations and themes. Uncle Sam’s poster origin from Samuel Wilson who gave out barrels of meat to the army during the War of 1812. On the barrels of meat, there were stamps that says “U.S.” to implied that it is government property. Uncle Sam on the poster has an iconic image of a cartoon …show more content…
This poster sends out a message on personal bases, Uncle Sam have his finger pointing and eye contact is being made, it seems like wherever you are in the crowd the message is meant for you. Although, this finger pointing and eye contact is intimidating, it works for most people because many of the young men and civilians are getting prepared for war. Uncle Sam poster represents the patriotism, due to the outfit and hat that he is wearing. The outfit is designed as the American flag, the hat has a white star in the front and blue stripes. His bow is red, his outer coat is blue and his undershirt is white. The American flag is red, white and blue. This poster shows a strong theme of patriotism in order to support the Americans during war. In conclusion, the poster have different meanings and themes behind it. The poster encourages young men to join the army and for people to prepare for war. The poster Uncle Sam, which originated from Samuel Wilson, who gave out meat barrels for the war. The image of Uncle Sam came from cartoon characters about politics of men having white bear and long white hair as a businessmen.
