This paper presents how EMDR can be used in treating clients with PTSD. It also presents how a clinical social worker can use the EMDR approach to assist clients with PTSD by intervening with individuals, communities, groups, and organizations to help reduce the trauma. The paper also discusses the involved issues with the methods of engagement such as barriers and challenges faced by clinical social workers when helping such clients deal with their trauma problems. Most of the social and health needs of sexual trafficking survivors directly come from their trauma experience as well as the brutality of actual sexual and physical violence. Clinical social workers have reported several challenges and barriers to assist such survivors in dealing with their suffering. One of these issues is therapist availability (Davidson & Parker, 2011). EMDR requires extensive training on the therapist’s part; this training is time consuming and can be costly (EMDR, 2017). Some individuals who require a referral may not have insurance, their copay may be too high, or they may not have the time for the sessions.
