Conditioning is strengthening an act that comes from reinforcement. It is a learning process that gives more or lessens the probability of certain behaviour as a result of effect. Operant conditioning is beneficial in shaping the students behaviour and their progress in a classroom. Operant conditioning is even effective for secondary two students as, it focuses on how one learns new behaviours by experience with effects in the surroundings. Principles of operant conditioning focus on behaviour modification that changes the friendly occurrence which is linked to ones behaviour. Behaviour modification is, when an acceptable behaviour is being reinforced, while the unwanted behaviours is being ignored or punished.
As mentioned by (Rogers 2006b), the students pouting, sighing, sulking, tut-tutting, raised eyes to ceiling, and huffing behaviours and their procrastination and argumentative stance are secondary to the primary issues that the teacher addresses. Students tend to delay the work that is given or even ignore the teacher whom is teaching when they are not interested with the lessons. It is a method whereby reinforcement is used to lead a reaction nearer and nearer to desired response. With this, motivation is also taken place when rewards are given. Rewards acts as a motivation to students. Through motivation, students are encouraged and willing to perform for its own sake. Positive reinforcement can increase the probability of efficiency of students and it impacts students to do a desired behaviour in order to receive the reward again. Students are motivated to determine in their studies increases and tend to be more concentrated in school.
