One of the positive effects of steroids is that the drug helps with diseases like AIDS, Inflammatory issues, bone mineral density, and other chronic diseases. “120 of the patients were put on prednisone (a type of steroid) and the other 120 on the placebo, both for four weeks. Both groups received TB treatment, then antiretroviral therapy. About 47% of the patients in the placebo group developed TB-IRIS compared to 33% in the prednisone group. This difference is unlikely to be due to chance, and so is almost certainly due to prednisone being effective (Africa News Service).” According to the study, researchers found that out of 120 patients that had TB-IRIS symptoms, after 4 weeks of being on the medication, there was a drastic amount of patients who actually developed the disease from the placebo group versus the group that took the steroid.
