Currently the Port has a trade valued annually at more than $180 billion moves through Long Beach. The port imports and exports everything from clothing, shoes, toes, furniture, electronics, petroleum, automobiles, cement, lumber, steel and other products. The port is a major economic force, it supports more than 30,000 jobs in Long Beach, 316,000 jobs throughout Southern California and 1.4 million jobs throughout the United States.

Because the big ships are cost effective for ocean carriers and reduce impact on the environment by decreasing diesel consumption the port invested and its revenues increase by about $70 million over a 5-year period.
Port security is a top priority for the Long Beach Port. They have The Harbor Patrol group. Highly trained, armed public officers dedicated to security and public safety. They also work with agencies such as the U.S. Coast guard, Customs & Border Protection, state and federal Homeland Security and the Long Beach Police department.
Another thing that stood out to me was the On-Dock Rail Support Facility at Pier B project. The purpose is to expand and enhance the existing pier facility which will in turn ease roadway traffic congestion and improve air quality.
