Population control should be in order for the general well being of future children, so they can have stability guaranteed to them. More often than not, people who live in poverty have the most children, which is not fair for children that are being brought to a life of struggle. For over the past 30 years, China had issued a one-child only policy throughout the country until recently relaxing it to two children. “Zheng Zhenzhen, a professor at the Institute of Population and Labor Economics in Beijing, told me that less than 2% of parents cite the state’s policy as the reason they have only one child…These parents cited the same concerns: the high prices of apartments and child care, as well as their long work hours” (New York Times). Many Chinese parents stated that they would not be making use of the new policy because they are much happier with one. These parents believe that having fewer children not only helps cut down the population, but it also keeps their lives flexible by not being overwhelmed with parenthood.
