Although Carol Joseph Wojtyla, Pope John Paul II, and grew up in a war torn world, he strove for peace and reconstruction while the Catholic church was rebuilding. Pope John Paul was born in Poland in 1920, and while he studied for priesthood the Nazis invaded Poland. Although Catholics and Jews were persecuted during World War II, John Paul continued his studies and became a priest in 1946 after the war. And through his hard work John Paul became a bishop and eventually an archbishop,then in 1978 he was ordained Pope and he was the first non-Italian Pope in 455 years.

Pope John Paul was born in Wadowice, Poland in 1920. John Paul's life before becoming a preist was very hard in a communist controlled Poland, and his early life was filled with tragedy. His brother, Edmund, died when he was 9. And John's mother died when he was only 12. It was hard for John Paul at a young age, then the Nazis

John Paul's work as a Pope included visiting more than 100 countries, and preaching about peace and faith. Then in 1981, he was talking to the crowds in St.Peter's Square and he was shot twice by an anonymous assassin. The whole world wa shocked by this and he later forgave the man who had tried to kill him. Later on in 2001, John Paul, then doctors found out that he had Parkinson's disease, and it appeared that his body was failing, but his mind and his faith were not. Parkinson's disease is a brain disorder that often causes shaking.

Pope John Paul II was a good pope and a Saint, that's why he was canonized April 27, 2014 by Pope Francis. He made a difference in so many people''s lives, and played a big part in helping grow the Church in a message of faith and peace. Pope John Paul II made a difference in many countries too he helped build churches and helped the people get to know Jesus and his teachings. These are just a few examples of going to the periphery, of many of St. John Paul
