Polygamy is a marriage that includes more than two partners. There are two different forms of polygamy: polygyny, when a man is married to more than one woman, and polyandry, when a woman is married to more than one husband at a time. The term that refers to those who practice polygamy is polygamists. Some cultures have no problem with polygamy, and they are fully accepting. In general, polygamy is legal in some countries in the form of polygyny. On the other hand, other cultures and countries do not tolerate polygamy, and they have even gone as far as to make it illegal. Various religious groups practice or practiced polygamy in ancient or biblical times. Throughout the years it has become increasingly disapproved of in society.
