The topic on variation of marriage was quite intriguing. In the U.S we mainly see monogamy families, however, there are polygamy families ( ex. Sister Wives) this can be seen in states such as Utah. Monogamy is marriage between two adults. Now monogamy family systems can be classified to one man and one woman, two men, or two women. Where polygamy has two subtopics: polyandry and polygyny. Polyandry is marriage between one woman and many men (this is rare but does occur in locations such as Tibet) and polygyny is marriage between one man and many women . In our book on page 254 it states “A survey of 565 world societies, only 25% are monogamy and over 70% is polygynous marriage systems.” This statistic was quite fascinating! It’s astounding
