Political parties have been a crucial part of American government since the ratification of the constitution in 1788. These groups of like-minded people keep the government organized, and help to inform the public on various political issues. Despite the fact that political parties are not explicitly mentioned in the constitution, they still hold a great deal of power. The importance of the Democratic Party , Republican Party, and the Working Families Party, is made evident through the origin,belief, and the key leaders of the party. The Working Families Party believes that in today’s world, the principles of democracy are not completely upheld due to the strong pull of the wealthy few who push for an economy that favors the wealthy. One of their goals is to raise the minimum wage to $10.10, so that the average working-class citizen has the best possible chance of success in today’s society. In addition, the party believes that providing a form of socialized medicine, like the Affordable Care Act, is crucial for those who cannot otherwise afford healthcare. The Working Families Party is an advocate for improving the overall conditions public school. According to WorkingFamilies.org, “This month, a first grader died after falling ill at Jackson Elementary in Philadelphia.
