As a newly appointed Chief of Police, I first would analyze where the department was and what direction it was headed. Before any changes were made, I would have to understand what were the police departments strengths and weaknesses. The employees would better know the answers to these questions, so I would talk to them and get a feeling for their jobs and expertise. The mission statement for the police department is important; it tells the story of who the men and women are who works in the agency and who they are to serve. The mission that is most important to me would be to preserve life, protect the community and ensure the safety of the community because there are innocent people out in the community who can’t protect themselves.
