Cognitive exams are a very vital in assessing the abilities of the employees that you are about to hire. Cognitive test asses and evaluate the important areas of the brain. These mainly include processing speed, reasoning capabilities, memory and concentration. In the police department, cognitive exams are very important and should be taken very seriously in employing new employees. Candidates that score particularly well in the cognitive test should be highly considered for the vacancies. The police department should try and hire individual that score well on the cognitive tests because it has been proven that police officer that scored well on the cognitive tests gather more detailed information from the witnesses during an investigation scene (Brown, 2010).
The memory of the police officer is enhanced through the interviewing process. A particular study showed that the officer collected twenty five to thirty five more information by the officer who scored high in the cognitive test as compared to the standard police. The ability of the police to collaborate with the other police officer since in difficult situations the life of the other police officer depends on the other officer. Working together as a unit is very important in the police department and officer that are able to work with other officer are very valuable. The personality of Agreeableness is very important character trait. Agreeableness trait generally reflects the individuals difference in general concern for the society. Individuals that are agreeable tend to value getting along with other people.
