Point of view can often times be expressed in first, second, or third person. First person often uses I, me, mine, myself, etc. and is mostly used to tell a personal narrative. Second person often uses words such as you and yours and is commonly used in emails, a written speech, or when giving directions. Lastly, there is third person. Third person often uses words such as he, she, him, her, and it and is used largely in formal writing, summaries and responses, or when comparing and contrasting people or things. The novel, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, consisted of Charlie writing numerous letters to “friend” and using words like “I” to give us a large glimpse into his thoughts, feelings, fears, and his mental state of mind portraying first …show more content…
The entry first starts out by Charlie describing how Brad is acting in the hallways now compared to before his dad had beat him up. “He looked very different. It wasn’t that he was bruised or anything. His face actually looked fine. But before, Brad was always a guy who walked the halls with a bounce” (Chbosky 149). As part 4 progresses, one day had ended and another had begun. It was now Thursday, and “something really terrible happened” (Chbosky 150). Charlies view of the situation at hand was that Brad ignored Patrick like always when Patrick went to talk to him. The short conversation had ended with Brad yelling “Faggot” (Chbosky 150). Laughter erupted from the table that Brad was sitting at when Patrick turned around. “He was mad as hell. I’m not kidding. He stormed up to Brad’s table and said “What did you call me?” (Chobosky 150). A fight broke out between Patrick and Brad and his friends. “The fight was hard. A lot harder than the one I had with Sean last year” (Chobosky 151). This whole scene was largely focused on how Charlie saw it and that was the only information the reader learned from reading this specific passage. Because of the first person point of view, it made it seem like there was no one but that group of people

Literary Analysis Point of view is when a reader can know the thoughts, actions, and words from someone’s perspective. For example, there is the first person point of view, where the narrator is the one telling the story from his or her point of view. In the story “Why, You Reckon?” by Langston Hughes, the narrator is telling the story in first person, from his point of view. The narrator tells the reader about his actions, the words he says, and even what he thinks as he relays what happened to him, a stranger he encounters, and an innocent young man. In “Why, You Reckon?”…

Even though the phrase “point of view” is just three measly words, it is one of the most important choices an author needs to make while deciding how they are going to write their story. Will they write in first person and use “I”, and “we”, or write in 3rd person and address people by their names or use pronouns like “he” or “they”? Although many people decide to write in third person point of view, both the stories The Georges and the Jewels by Jane Smiley, and Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse by Anna Sewell develop their characters through first person point of view. The Georges and the Jewels is a story in perspective of a little girl named Abby, who has had both the good and the bad with horses. She has been thrown off of her…

Charlie being an outcast (alienated) and being bullied is society's fault simply because they isolate people because they believe if you don’t act or look a certain way and do not stick to the statues quote, you're not normal. In the book Charlie also said “Just tell me how to be different in a way that makes sense.” This quote clearly proves that society is at fault for Charlie's breakdown because he’s trying to change himself to get accepted, even though he’s not happy. “High school? Bullshit.…

( In the Skin of a Lion 22), but near the middle of the story Patrick’s change of character shocked me when he said “I am wanted by the police … For willful destruction of property” (170). This was said after Patrick had blown up the Muskoka hotel in attempt for revenge for his love Alica. I could not believe Patrick was capable of doing something so bad even if it were for someone he loved. A story has to start somewhere a reason for its beginning usually from a conflict that arises.…

After a long fought battle between Dr. Piedmont and Pat, which ended up being taken to court, he ends up being fired because of his “unconventional teaching ways”. Pat, upset because of his wrongful termination and not being able to teach at Yamacraw, fires back at the School Board with this book to show their racism against those on the island. And finally, Pat wrote to show people what discrimination and prejudices do to people like the ones on Yamacraw. Pat was shocked at the lack of education these kids had received because of their race, and throughout the book he attempted to correct what the school board had done, even if it meant teaching in nontraditional ways. He was disgusted at the lack of sympathy and the threats made by Dr. Piedmont, that Pat felt the need to expose these peoples hardships to share what exactly racism does to the people…
