According to gestalt therapy, contact and withdrawal are necessary for the client to grow healthy. The results of the resistance include five different types such as introjection, projection, retroflection, deflection, and confluence. These resistance types explain how an individual handles a situation with other individuals or society. As stated by Corey ( 2009, 2013), “ It is important to explore what the resistance does for the clients, what it protects them from and what it keeps them from experiencing.”
However, it is important to locate the lost energy in an individual and deal with it accordingly. The block energy can move through a client’s body through muscles, breathing patterns, and isolation from other individuals or him/herself.
