You do not attend a showing of The Addams Family to be moved or inspired; you go for laughs and fun. And when you have a cast as talented as the one at CM Performing Arts Center’s Noel S. Ruiz Theatre, you will exit the theatre thoroughly entertained. This iconic brand has been around for quite some time and while the musical may not be the strongest of material per se, Andrew Lippa's score and the Marshall Brickman/Rick Elice's book are uproarious and, to be honest, does have heart.…

It is with great pleasure that I submit an application for the Marketing Growth Analyst position offered by Ampush. I learned about Ampush from personal research and became interested in your company’s unique approach to marketing strategy and campaigns. When I first learned of Ampush, I was immediately taken by your mission to cater an individual advertising experience for each one of your company partners rather than trying to find a one-size-fits-all strategy for every single project. Ampush’s focus on instead developing strategies that target the individual needs of each project resonates strongly with my experiences in the arts at Williams. With each theatrical production I worked on, I was encouraged to analyze and understand the show…

My mother first introduced me to the idea of Wagner, raving about its theatre program, arguing I was a perfect fit. Growing up less than an hour from Boston, I slightly tasted city life throughout my childhood; yet always wanted to be a part of something bigger than a middle class town. Wagner’s location blends NYC life with my hometown environment, appealing to both sides of my personality. Further influenced my by mother’s review, I began researching Wagner’s website, where I discovered the Port Richmond Partnership. I grew up doing community service with my father at soccer fields on Saturday mornings, and I strive to combine volunteering with theatre.…

As the house lights are gradually lowered in the Glenelg Country School auditorium, the audience’s effervescent chattering falls to a hush and all that can be heard is one voice somewhere in the theatre, enchanting the audience. The spectators listen intently as the voice travels throughout the theatre, until suddenly, a single spotlight illuminates a middle-aged man sitting on a worn armchair playing the soundtrack of his favorite musical on his antique turntable. So begins Gelnelg Country School’s performance of “The Drowsy Chaperone”. Written by Bob Martin and Don McKeller and music by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, the musical follows the story of an antisocial man as he provides hilarious commentary on his favorite musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone” while listening to its soundtrack on a record player in his quaint apartment. As the music plays, the show comes to life and emphasizes its nonsensical elements to satirize popular musical theatre.…

The American musical has started the conversation for many important issues and allowed for the inclusion of Black and LGBTQA* communities in the American identity by bringing them into the spotlight and the conversation. Broadway and the American musical has become an incredibly valuable platform for issues like these to gain the visibility they wouldn’t otherwise get. I think that Broadway has become this platform because it is one of the only places where live performance art can still thrive. The reason live performance has had such success talking about tough issues is because of the magic of live theatre. Watching an actor perform live automatically instills a sense of empathy in the audience for that character, even if that character’s culture, race, sexual orientation or life choices are something you struggle to…
