Pluto's Dwarf Planet

Pluto is not a planet and should be identified as a dwarf planet because of Pluto's size and location. The data shows that Gareth Williams, associate director of the IAU's Minor Planet Center said that “Pluto is not a planet, citing the official definition, which states that a planet is a celestial body that is in orbit around the sun. Is round or nearly round.Has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit, meaning it is not surrounded by objects of similar size and characteristics.” The text states that Mike Brown, of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena found more than 40 different dwarf planets. Including Ceres and UB313. According to nasa.gov Pluto has a tilted orbit Pluto's orbital path angles are 17 degrees above the line

Most Holy Lord Pluto, King of the Underworld. I invoke you to curse (maledictionem) the success of the charioteer on the far right side, called Scorpus of the Green faction, who is twenty seven years old and has acquired many wins he does not deserve. May you bind his body, his mind, his hands, his eyes, his courage, his nerves, his victory, and his legs, so that he may not be able to properly steer his chariot at the Royal Games tomorrow. May you also bind the body, mind, and legs of his horses, so that they are not able to react in the Hippodrome when they are supposed to overtake any other team. If they must collide, let it be with any team of the Red, White or Green factions, but let it not be with any of the Blue.…

The discussion for this assessment is to explain, “Why was Pluto demoted to a dwarf planet?” While searching for another planet to explain irregularities in Neptune’s orbit, Pluto was discovered in 1930 by astronomers. At that time, the astronomers gave Pluto very little consideration due to its size, about the size of earth, and way too small to have any affect in altering Neptune’s orbit. As time passed, and technology improved, the size of Pluto was reexamined through improved satellite images, and found to be less than half of Earth’s diameter. Most recently, calculations established on images obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope, show that Pluto’s about one- fifth the diameter of earth and half that of Mercury (considered the runt of…

    19. Pluto is no longer considered a planet, and is considered a dwarf planet because it has not “cleared the neighborhood around its orbit. This saying pretty much means that Pluto has gained control of the gravity around it. So astronomers made a name for these planets known as the dwarf planets, to show that it is a planet that continues to orbit the sun, but it hasn’t cleared the neighborhood. 20.…

Keeping to the traditional naming system used for all the previous planets, Neptune was given its name based on the Roman god of the sea, in reference to Greek and Roman mythology. General Information: Neptune has a vivid blue colouration to its layer of cloud cover. In 1906 Percival Lowell, who was a wealthy Bostonian who founded Lowell Observatory, started a search for a ninth planet in our solar system which he called planet X. But as Percival was looking for it he died in 1916 with no prevail, he had gotten pictures but planet X was very faint in the pictures, and so after 10 years the search for the planet began again but this time a 23 year old astronomer named Clyde Tombaugh who proved the existence of the mysterious planet in 1930; the planet was named Pluto after discovery. Pluto was called the smallest planet in our solar system and the ninth planet from the star, and most of it is made up of frozen nitrogen, methane, and carbon monoxide and probably has a small core with some metals. It got it’s name from an eleven year old girl named Venetia Burney who suggested naming it after the Roman god of death because it was most likely beyond freezing there that far away from the sun. Pluto also has five moons, Kerberos, Styx, Nix, Hydra, and Charon which is about half the size of Pluto’s. The small planet is only 1,400 miles wide making it slightly smaller than Earth’s moon.…

Kepler has been “specifically designed to survey our region of the Milky Way galaxy to discover hundreds of Earth-size and smaller planets in or near the habitable zone and determine the fraction of the hundreds of billions of stars in our galaxy that might have such planets. ”(“Mission Overview | NASA”) Kepler is able to detect planets is by the transit method. This method has Kepler watch stars and see if there is any light coming from the star that is being blocked.…
