Pluto Planet

According to science a planet is a celestial body that is in the orbit of the sun, has a certain mass and has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit. A dwarf planet is also a celestial body that orbits the sun, has a certain mass, but has not cleared the neighborhood around its orbit and is not a satellite. This is what we use to classify planets but we don’t have an actual definition for the word planet. Pluto has been a part of our solar system for a long time now, but the question is Pluto a planet is still upon us. Some consider Pluto a planet and some consider it a dwarf planet. By using Kepler’s Third Law we figured out that the mass of Object X is 1.476*10^22kg, and expressed it in Mearth which equals .00247, in other words 405 Object X will fit onto Earth, therefore Object X should be considered a planet.
In our solar system we have moons, planets, dwarf planets, comets and asteroids, minor plates, dust and gas and everything in our solar system revolves around the sun. The planets in the solar system have the certain mass to be classified as planets. Even though the mass of Object X is a lot smaller compared to all the other planets it does not mean it can’t be classified as a planet. In the article “When is a

The object does not have a huge mass, but it still almost everything else that a planet should have. In Freedman’s article he talks about two people who discovered things about our planets and state just because it has a smaller mass does not mean it is not a planet. Additionally, we are not exactly sure what can and what can’t be classified as a planet since we don’t have a formal definition of the word. All in all, this object should be considered a planet based on the calculations we

Should Pluto be a dwarf planet or a planet? There has been lots of debate on whether it should be a dwarf planet or a planet. Their is not a big difference between the dwarf planets and the planets. The only difference between the two is that a dwarf planet has an orbit around it which is not cleared out and the orbit around a planet is cleared out. Pluto has been a dwarf planet since 2006.…

The discussion for this assessment is to explain, “Why was Pluto demoted to a dwarf planet?” While searching for another planet to explain irregularities in Neptune’s orbit, Pluto was discovered in 1930 by astronomers. At that time, the astronomers gave Pluto very little consideration due to its size, about the size of earth, and way too small to have any affect in altering Neptune’s orbit. As time passed, and technology improved, the size of Pluto was reexamined through improved satellite images, and found to be less than half of Earth’s diameter. Most recently, calculations established on images obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope, show that Pluto’s about one- fifth the diameter of earth and half that of Mercury (considered the runt of…

But then he realized it was moving too slowly to be a comet. 19. Pluto is no longer considered a planet, and is considered a dwarf planet because it has not “cleared the neighborhood around its orbit. This saying pretty much means that Pluto has gained control of the gravity around it. So astronomers made a name for these planets known as the dwarf planets, to show that it is a planet that continues to orbit the sun, but it hasn’t cleared the neighborhood. 20.…

This object had an observable change in diameter as it passed through the sky. It also followed the ecliptic path, or the general path all planets follow through the sky. How did the discoverer(s) rely on the work of others? After the planet was observed, mathematics was applied to its positioning using the work of Isaac Newton, which further confirmed it as a planet.…

Neptune is one of the four large planets in our Solar System known as Gas Giants. It is the eighth planet in order from the Sun, and was seen through a telescope for the first time on the 23rd of September 1846. Keeping to the traditional naming system used for all the previous planets, Neptune was given its name based on the Roman god of the sea, in reference to Greek and Roman mythology. General Information: Neptune has a vivid blue colouration to its layer of cloud cover. Higher absorption levels of red light caused by methane in its atmosphere is thought to be the cause of this bright blue tint.…

The scientist wanted to keep the tradition of naming the Planets after Roman Gods of the Underwold. Pluto was said to be the smallest Planet in the solar system and the ninth Planet from the sun, little after Pluto was recategorized From a planet to a Dwarf Planet, but still smaller than other Dwarf Planets meaning that It can not clear any objects out of its path. Dwarf Planet Pluto was discovered to have five moons Hydra, Kerberos, Nix, Styx, and Charon the largest moon.…

In 1906 Percival Lowell, who was a wealthy Bostonian who founded Lowell Observatory, started a search for a ninth planet in our solar system which he called planet X. But as Percival was looking for it he died in 1916 with no prevail, he had gotten pictures but planet X was very faint in the pictures, and so after 10 years the search for the planet began again but this time a 23 year old astronomer named Clyde Tombaugh who proved the existence of the mysterious planet in 1930; the planet was named Pluto after discovery. Pluto was called the smallest planet in our solar system and the ninth planet from the star, and most of it is made up of frozen nitrogen, methane, and carbon monoxide and probably has a small core with some metals. It got it’s name from an eleven year old girl named Venetia Burney who suggested naming it after the Roman god of death because it was most likely beyond freezing there that far away from the sun. Pluto also has five moons, Kerberos, Styx, Nix, Hydra, and Charon which is about half the size of Pluto’s. The small planet is only 1,400 miles wide making it slightly smaller than Earth’s moon.…

In addition, Pluto’s surface gravity, 0.658 m/s², is 1/12 smaller than Earth’s (“Pluto”). This planet is orbiting a G type star called Kepler 22. The two are more than 600 light years from earth and they lie in the constellation of Cygnus. The radius of the planet is about 2.4 times our earths radius while the mass and surface composition is not known because how far away it is. It is thought that it could be an oceanicaly dominated planet meaning it is completely ocean on the surface and has a small rocky core. The average distance from Kepler 22b to its sun is about 15% less than our earth to our suns distance but this is counterbalanced by the fact that the luminosity of the sun Kepler 22 is roughly 25% less than our suns.…
