Platinum(symbol: Pt) is a very useful, but rare, element. The name Platinum comes from the Spanish word "Platina" meaning silver. Platinum is sometimes called a "Noble Metal" because of its unreactiveness to other elements including Oxygen. Because it is so unreactive, Platinum is commonly used for jewelry, dental filling, surgical tools, and laboratory apparatus.

In normal conditions Platinum is a solid, shiny, silver metal. Its atomic number is 78, and its atomic mass is 195.084. Its density is 21.45 g/cm3. Platinum has a melting point of 3,215 fahrenheit, and a boiling point of 6,917 fahrenheit.

Platinum is in group 10 on the periodic table. It is also a Transition and Platinum Group metal. Like the other elements in the Platinum Group metals, Platinum is very rare and very expensive. Every year 130 tons of Platinum is mined, but it takes 10 tons and 6 months of processing to producing a single ounce of pure Platinum. 90% of the worlds annual supply of Platinum comes from only 4 mines!

Platinum through history has been considered a rare metal and a symbol of richness and power. Queen Elizabeth's crown had a frame made out of Platinum. Platinum has many common compounds but most of them are variations of compounds between Platinum and Flourine, Chlorine, Bromine, and Iodine.

Platinum has 78 protons and 78 electrons when neutral. Its Noble Gas configuration is; [Xe] 6s2 5d8. Its Electron Configuration is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 5s2 4d10 5p6 4f14 5d8. Platinum has 6 natural isotopes, 190Pt, 192Pt, 194Pt, 195Pt, 196Pt, and

The purpose of this lab was to analyze and examine periodic trends of the first 36 elements that are on the periodic table. Trends that were analyzed and examined are the atomic radius (AR) and the first ionization energy (IE) of the 36 elements. The hypothesis for this lab was that the elements that are in the groups that had the highest atomic radius would be in the same groups as those who have the the highest first ionization energy and the groups who have the lowest atomic radius would be in the same groups as those elements who have the lowest first ionization energy. In order for the lab to be completed, a chart that was split into four sections was made to collect all the necessary data that is needed to make the graphs. After the data has been collected, a graph that contains both trends was made on a piece of graph paper.…

The penny was created with one intended purpose, facilitating the exchange of goods and services, but because of inflation the value of the penny has decreased making it hard for consumers to purchase anything with one single penny. Today pennies can be found under couches, sidewalks, and even in the garbage.…
