So . . . . . Where is it?

The MSA Camp is located on the smaller side of Catalina. It is on the opposite side of Catalina's only developed city; Avalon. This amazing feat of conservation was accomplished by not disturbing the land or creatures. The plant life in Catalina is very diverse. You can find prickly pear cacti and fake berry plants! Some plants at Catalina even release toxic fumes when burned! Catalina, like all other islands, not only has plants, but animals as well! It has a few pigs and many other animals! If you look really close at the landscape from the hill, you might see buffalo! Take caution; these animals should not be messed with.

SNORKELING
In this activity, you see an extreme amount of biodiversity. Kelp, Giribaldi, Opal Eye, Moray Eels, water snakes, and other marine life are spotted in this journey. You are in the water for approximately 30 minutes and the water is 65 degrees F. The snorkel helps you breathe while under the water. Sometimes, as you're swimming, kelp will brush against your legs. As you go deeper into the ocean, the bottom is approximately 20 feet deep and many animals can be observed. After snorkeling, you try to identify what fish you saw.
CLASSES
Most of the time in MSA, you are in a class. Some classes include pollution, touch tank, fish, birds, and other animals. Each class has a character trait and spiritual application for that trait. The classes in Catalina are extremely educational and have interactive games. For example, the bird lab is taught with kayaks (you kayak to the island) and the fish lab is taught with the snorkels (you see them underwater). Most of the classes in the MSA are related to marine life.

The dining hall contains the stations where you get food. Once you get your food, you go outside and eat at the tables. There are no chairs or tables in the inside so you are forced to eat outside. The dining hall is extremely large (probably the size of a small house).

I think of how my crew and I had to lug our gear- diving suits, flippers, goggles, BSD vests, regulators, bulky air tanks and all- onto the boat. I turn my eyes to the blue abyss ahead of me, but it is not the soft light blue-green that we find at the shallow end but the deeper, more somber blue that represents the enigma of the ocean and the journey that lies ahead of me. Then the boat stops moving and it's time to get ready for our first dive.…
